Who We Are:
The point San Luis Lighthouse
Keepers is a non-profit organization established in 1995
to provide the leadership, talent and organization to restore
and maintain the Lightstation. Donations of time and money,
as well as architectural, engineering and historical building
expertise, have come from many sources. We are a 501c(3)
not-for-profit corporation registered with the State of
California and the Federal Government. Donations to the
Keepers are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the
law.
What We Do:
Our first
goal is to stabilize the structure after 20 years of neglect.
This will be followed by an exacting restoration process
for the exterior of the 100 year old redwood buildings.
Refinishing and furnishing of the interiors of the lighthouse/head-keepers
quarters will come next, starting with the kitchen, parlor
and sitting room. Our ultimate goal is to provide an educational
and recreational resource which takes visitors back into
the history of the Central Coast in the near early 20th century
- a time of kerosene lanterns and travel by sea.
How We Do It:
The Lighthouse Keepers is governed by a board of directors
selected from the membership at large. The Board holds monthly
meetings and provides for the Lightstation's care and upkeep
by soliciting funds and organizing the restoration process.
Construction and maintenance are provided by both professionals
and volunteers at monthly work Saturdays. These work days
have proved to be productive and offer time to learn about
Lightstation history and make new friends.
