"Brent was a gregarious, friendly, warm individual. His enthusiasm for the Central Coast's maritime history and heritage was deep and strong. I first met Brent when he came to San Simeon to request State Parks' participation in the Morro Bay Harbor Festival. Brent rightfully recognized that history needed a strong place and presence in the annual coastal celebration. That was in 1992; State Parks has participated every year since then.

Brent possessed boundless energy, curiosity, and drive. He helped promote maritime history in all of its locations and manifestations. The San Luis Lighthouse benefited from his participation. "I can tell you he was a wonderful, thoughtful man. The lighthouse was truly a passion and inspiration for him. As you may know, he was instrumental in getting the Point San Luis Lighthouse featured in PBS's California Gold with Huell Howser (in 2003 I believe). There is a great picture of Brent in his Lighthouse Keeper attire that was used for the March 2003 edition of the San Luis Obispo County Magazine, when he was interviewed and was promoting the restoration and history of the lighthouse." - Margaret Roberts

"I have fond membories of a Saturday many years ago when we spent the day with Brent, his wife Margaret, and a group of about twenty “lighthouse lovers” who bravely hiked from the base of the mountain out to the lighthouse. The trip was arranged by Brent to benefit the March of Dimes and was sponsored by Mid-State Bank and Trust, Brent’s employer. Brent spent countless hours at the lighthouse and was so proud of the renovations that has been completed on several of the rooms and was eagerly anticipating the day of completion for the project. We were given a special tour inside the lighthouse and then dined on gourmet sandwiches and listed to tales of long ago while watching the waves crash below the cliff. It was truly a magical day.
